KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE [ part III ]

You can file this under "stuff moms don't tell you" : its never too early to start using an eye cream!

What makes a truly great eye cream?

A well formulated eye area product should be have an impressive array of ingredients that include antioxidants, skin repairing and cell-communicating ingredients. You'd be surprised to see how many lackluster formulas I review!  Another important factor to consider when buying an eye cream is packaging. Ditch the jars! Look for squeeze tubes, pumps, basically anything not in a jar. All those great ingredients your paying for will oxidize very quickly when exposed to air and become inactive.

Do I need SPF in an eye cream?

Sunscreen ingredients can irritate the sensitive eye area, but you still need a little protection.  My strategy is to just buy eye creams without SPF, so you can use it for day and night. If your going to be out and about, your regular gentle spf can be dabbed along the lower eye area. If you prefer to use an eye cream with a built in SPF, thats fine too! Keep it off your eyelids, and use a separate one without SPF for night.

Whats the deal with all the new eye masks?

I love a good eye mask! It's a nice way to give yourself a little relax time and they feel damn good. These are especially fun before an event. Im really into the ones from SK-II, they are loaded with great ingredients and give your eyes an instant pick me up.

Will an eye cream really help my wrinkles?

Absolutely, but keep your expectations realistic. In your twenties and thirties, an eye cream can prevent and repair the early signs of fine lines. If your wrinkles are deep, use a eye cream with a retinoid at night. Also, a little botox can help the side of the eye aka "crows feet" area but won't do anything for under the eye. For this area we usually recommend a light laser resurfacing which will naturally stimulate enough collagen to soften the area. Another option is to put a little injectable filler to instantly plump up and add volume to the area.
